Fredensborg Badehotel is beautifully located by the water on Strandvejen in Rønne, Bornholm’s most exclusive area.
Right next to the hotel is the Galløkken forest. Follow the forest trails for a few hundred meters, and you’ll reach a lovely bathing beach. This hidden gem is rarely crowded, mostly visited by locals and hotel guests.
After enjoying the beach, continue along the forest trails into the center of Rønne, the capital of Bornholm. At the end of the trail, you’ll encounter Kastellet, built by Christian V in the 17th century to strengthen Denmark’s military presence in the Baltic Sea. Nearby is the fascinating Defence Museum, where you can learn about Bornholm during World War II. While the rest of Denmark celebrated liberation in May 1945, Bornholm’s German commander refused to surrender the island to Russia, having authority only to surrender to English troops. Rønne was then heavily bombed by Russian aircraft and occupied by Russian troops until 1946. The museum also covers Bornholm’s important role during the Cold War, with exciting stories of spies and defections.
