Østersøen Holiday Apartments is built in an old merchant's house from the 1700s. The old rooms from that time have been renovated and decorated in a lovely and cosy way, which means that each apartment is decorated differently. The apartments have either a cosy sun terrace facing the courtyard or a fantastic view of Svaneke Harbour and the Baltic Sea.

Summerhouse for 8-10 people
Postgadehuset is the former director's residence of Hotel Østersøen Holiday Apartments. Today, the director's residence has been converted into a cosy and spacious summerhouse for 8-10 people, but you still have access to Hotel Østersøen's cosy courtyard with palm trees, fig trees, rose bushes - and not least the beautiful swimming pool.

The summerhouse's layout
With its 149 m2 spread over two floors, this holiday home offers an ideal setting for a comfortable and memorable holiday in Svaneke. On the ground floor, a welcoming entrance hall leads you into the heart of the house. Here you'll find a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, perfect for preparing delicious meals. The dining room is cosy and is ideal for intimate dinners or cosy mornings. The large living room is equipped with a wood-burning stove that adds an extra cosy atmosphere on chilly evenings. The living room has 2 sofa beds that can accommodate 3-4 people. From the living room there is direct access to a sunny terrace, a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening sun. From the entrance hall you also have access to a bathroom with a toilet and shower. On the first floor you will find another bathroom with a bathtub and three bedrooms. These rooms contain a total of 7 beds, making the house ideal for larger families or a group of friends.

Arrival days
From 28 June to 15 August 2026, Sunday is the arrival and departure day, and stays are booked in full weeks. For some apartments, Sunday is an arrival and departure day only from 5 to 8 July. At other times, there is no fixed changeover day, and stays are booked for a minimum of 3 nights.
Hypoallergenic holiday apartments
All holiday apartments are non-smoking. If you have a pet allergy, you can choose to stay in one of the pet-free holiday homes. Please inform us of your allergy when making your reservation, and we will book you into one of the hypoallergenic holiday homes. None of our pillows or duvets are stuffed with down, so an allergy to down will not be a problem.

Cleaning
We'll make sure to clean your holiday apartment on arrival/departure. Cleaning is always included in your rental price, and we will not send you any additional invoices for this after your holiday. On your departure, we simply ask you to ensure that the furniture is in its place, the dishes are cleaned/dishwasher is emptied, and any waste has been placed in the correct bins..
Duvets and bed linen
The apartment is equipped with duvets and pillows. You need to bring your own bed linen and towels unless you rent a linen package from us. The linen package includes sheets, pillowcases, and one large and one small towel. If you wish to rent a linen package, you can add it to your booking when reserving your stay..
Freezing opportunities
All aprtments have a refrigerator with a small freezer compartment.
Grill
In the courtyard there are gas grills that you can borrow for free - just remember to clean the grill after use. Be careful, show consideration and feel free to share the barbecue area with your neighbour. Due to the risk of fire, you must not use other types of grills than gas grills at Østersøen Holiday Apartments
Disability conditions
Østersøen Holiday Apartments are generally not wheelchair accessible, but some apartments can be used by wheelchair users. Please contact us at +45 56 95 85 66 for advice and guidance if you need to bring a wheelchair. If you have difficulty walking, we can offer a ground-floor apartment and reserve a parking space close to the entrance – please let us know when booking.
Internet
All apartments at Østersøen Holiday Apartments have wireless internet access. The connection speed may vary depending on the number of simultaneous users. If you need to use the internet for work purposes, we recommend that you bring your own mobile connection. Slow or faulty internet connection will not be grounds for financial compensation.
Keys
We’ll send you a separate email a few days before your arrival with information about how to get the key to your holiday apartment. It’s a simple process – and no problem at all if you arrive late in the evening.
Kitchen towels, toilet paper and more
Upon arrival, you'll find a kitchen towel, dishcloth and a starter supply of toilet paper in your holiday home. If you need more, you are responsible for bringing/buying it yourself.
Kitchenware
The holiday apartments all have well equipped kitchens with everything you need for basic cooking - including tableware and utensils, so you don't need to bring any of your own.
Parking
When you stay at Østersøen Holiday Apartments, you can park free of charge, in the private car park. Please be aware that the number of parking spaces are limited. If you are travelling with two cars, it will only be possible to park one car in the private car park. There are ample opportunities for free parking just 0-150 meters from Østersøen Holiday Apartments. The car park at Østersøen Holiday Apartments can be accessed from Postgade 2. If you have difficulty walking, or are travelling with a wheelchair, we can reserve a parking space for you. Please remember to inform us of this, at the time of booking.
Pets
You can bring pets in selected apartments at Østersøen Holiday Apartments. If you are bringing a dog or cat, please remember to add this when booking your stay. Please note that an additional cleaning fee applies for stays with pets. Smoking
Smoking is not permitted at Østersøen Holiday Apartments - and the smoking ban applies both indoors and outdoors. There is a special area marked outside the resort where smoking is permitted.
Swimming pool
As a guest at Østersøen Holiday Apartments, you have free access to the beautiful swimming pool, open from 9 AM to 8 PM from 1 June to 31 August 2026.
Washing machine and tumble dryer
If you need to do laundry during your holiday, you have the opportunity to borrow a washing machine and dryer free of charge at Østersøen Holiday Apartments. In the period 1 December - 1 April, however, the washing machine and dryer are closed.

Svaneke is one of the few towns in Europe, which has been awarded the European Council’s gold medal for ”Excellent Preservation Work”. Take a ride on the local horse drawn carriage, where you can lean back and enjoy the beautiful old timber framed houses.
On the harbour in front of Østersøen Holiday Apartments, you will soon experience the holiday vibe. From the harbour, you can walk along the narrow streets to the square, where there is always a great atmosphere – especially on market days, where you might be able to get a good deal from one of the locals. We recommend that you visit ”Svaneke Købmandshandel”, which is a charming traditional grocery store, where time was stopped in the 1950s.
Beautiful coastal paths
Along the coast in Svaneke, you will be able to experience some of the most beautiful coastlines on Bornholm. Go north, and you will arrive in the small fishing village of Listed. Go south, and you will arrive in another fishing village, Årsdale. On your way to Årsdale, you will pass ”Hullehavn”, a gorgeous little sandy bay, where you can take a swim.

Svaneke is not just charming. Svaneke is the creative hub of Bornholm. Here, you will be able to find anything your eyes, or belly, may desire. Glass art. Paintings. Designer clothes. Handmade liquorish, chocolate, ice cream, and hard candy. Do visit the local smokehouse, with its fish delicacies, or Svaneke Bryghus with its critically acclaimed beer. Another fun experience is Chicken Bingo, which is Bornholm's local version of the lottery. It sounds a bit strange, but it creates lots of laughs when you let 3 chickens loose on a big bingo field where you have to bet on which number field the chickens will put the next "blob" on. As skilled announcers talk about the progress, the audience loudly comments on the progress - and some think it's good to have bad tracks in this game. The acknowledged danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende has named the Chicken Bingo in Svaneke as Denmark's third best holiday activity. You have to experience it!

Do you have children with you? They will love Brændesgårdshaven
Just outside Svaneke, a path leads up through the fields. The path has been here for millennia and leads up to Sorte Muld, one of Scandinavia's largest Iron Age settlements. The King of Bornholm lived here and thousands of so-called guldgubber - small gold figurines - have been found, indicating that it was a very rich society. The excavations continue every summer and you are welcome to drop by. Perhaps today is the day the great gold treasure will be found? If you continue past Sorte Muld, you'll reach Bornholm's large amusement park ‘Brændesgårdshaven’, which offers a wealth of fun activities for children, a mini-zoo, rowing boats and much-much more. Once the entrance fee is paid, all rides are free. Brændesgårdshaven is a must visit when you bring your children to Bornholm.
Warning - Svaneke is highly addictive
It's not just the tourists who love Svaneke. Svaneke is also the town with some of the highest house prices on Bornholm. And it's not just Bornholm residents who move to the town. There are many tourists who have forgotten all about the return ticket to ‘Denmark’ after their encounter with Svaneke. We must therefore warn that a visit to Svaneke can become highly addictive... For example, Østersøen Holiday Apartments is probably the holiday resort on Bornholm with the largest number of regular guests.

From merchant’s house to holiday apartments
In the 1700 and 1800s, Svaneke was home to many wealthy ship owners, who built magnificent merchant’s houses along the harbour. For centuries, the old merchant’s house, which today is known as Østersøen Holiday Apartments, has been located right there on the harbour. The oldest records are from 1758, where Madame Else Chat inherited the merchant’s house from her husband. In 1804, the leading man in Svaneke, tradesman and vice consul, Herman Jørgen Hansen, bought the merchant’s house.
From merchant’s house to guesthouse
The merchant’s house stayed in the Hansen family, and in 1870, his son in law, surveyor Munck, took over the building. Shortly hereafter, he opened a guesthouse in some of the buildings. The guesthouse was expanded in 1889, so that surveyor Munck was able to offer residences to his honourable guests – as he announced it in the local paper.
From hotel to holiday apartments
Through the 1900s, the then named Hotel Østersøen was known as one of the foremost hotels on Bornholm, among tourists, as well as the locals. In 1990, the hotel was carefully rebuilt to house holiday apartments, and the old courtyard was transformed with a flower garden and accompanying swimming pool. In 2008, (250 years after Madame Chat took over), all apartments were completely renovated, and have since then been carefully maintained and modernised, so that, today, the apartments are some of the most sought after holiday homes on Bornholm.
